UPSC Prelims 2024 Postponed Due to General Elections

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has announced the postponement of the civil service preliminary exam for 2024 due to the upcoming general elections. Originally scheduled for May 26, the exam will now be held on June 16. Candidates who have applied for the exam can view the official notice on the UPSC website at upsc.gov.in. The general elections for the 18th Lok Sabha are set to take place starting April 19 this year.
An official notice stated, “Due to the schedule of the impending General Election, the Commission has decided to postpone the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination 2024, which also serves as the screening test for the Indian Forest Service Examination, 2024, from 26-05-2024 to 16-06-2024."
UPSC Prelims 2024: Insights
The UPSC plans to fill approximately 1056 vacancies through this recruitment drive. This includes 40 openings reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PWD) in the following categories:
- 6 openings for blindness and low vision
- 12 for deaf and hard of hearing
- 9 for locomotor disability, including dwarfism, acid attack victims, cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, and muscular dystrophy
- 13 for multiple disabilities, including deaf-blindness
The official notice for the UPSC Civil Service Examination (CSE) 2024 was released on February 14. Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution or an equivalent qualification to be eligible. Additionally, applicants should be between 21 and 32 years old.
