The worlds largest floating solar power plant is on its way to MP

August 11, 2022

Madhya Pradesh will be home to the world's largest floating solar power plant. It aims to increase the state's power generation capacity and address electricity issues in the central region.

Important information about the plant:

Khandwa will be the site of the floating solar power plant.

It will produce 600 megawatts of power by 2022-23.

This project is expected to cost Rs. 3000 crores.

Khandwa will be the only district in the state to have a thermal power station, a hydropower plant, and a solar power plant.

A solar power plant will be built near the Omkareshwar Dam on the Narmada River.

Solar Panels and India's largest floating solar plant

The Ramagundam Floating Solar PV Project in Telangana is currently the largest project in the country. It is capable of producing 100 MW of energy. The project's commercial operation began on July 1, 2022. NTPC commissioned this project.

Floating Solar Panels are Photovoltaic (PV) modules mounted on platforms floating in lakes, reservoirs, and other bodies of water. These modules are installed in calm bodies of water such as ponds, lakes, or reservoirs. The module's installation is relatively simple. These plants run quietly. They do not necessitate the levelling of land or the removal of vegetation.
