Inauguration of the Worlds Highest Chenab Railway Bridge
August 25, 2022
The golden joint of the world's highest railway bridge over River Chenab was inaugurated. For the first time ever since independence, Srinagar will be linked to the rest of India.
The highest railway bridge in the world over the Chenab River received its official opening. The world's highest single-arch railway bridge over the River Chenab now has an overarch deck, connecting Srinagar to the rest of India for the first time since independence. The bridge will surpass the Eiffel Tower by 35 metres.
Extras Regarding the Bridge:
Famous for its sophisticated architecture, the Chenab Bridge overcame several difficulties. A few of the difficulties that the engineers and railway officials had to face to get here were the geology, the rough terrain, and the hostile climate.
About Chenab River:
In the western (Punjab) Himalayas of India's Himachal Pradesh state, two streams, Chandra and Bhaga, come together to form the Chenab. It travels west between the jagged cliffs of the Shiwalik Range (to the south) and the Lesser Himalayas, passing through the Indian-administrated Jammu and Kashmir union territory, which is a part of the disputed Kashmir area (north). The Chenab drains into the Sutlej River, an Indus River tributary, close to Trimmu after receiving the Jhelum River.
The Builder's Background
In addition to the Chenab Bridge, Afcons is constructing 16 other railway bridges for Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) in the treacherous terrain of Jammu and Kashmir. The Udhampur Srinagar Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project includes all of the bridges.
