The IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich List 2022 was recently published.
Important discoveries
1,103 people from 122 Indian cities have a combined wealth of Rs.1,000 crore, representing a 62% increase in the last five years.
Cumulative wealth has increased by 9.4%, while average wealth has decreased by 1%.
602 people have seen their wealth increase or remain constant. There were 149 newcomers among them.
415 people have seen their wealth dwindle, and 50 have dropped off the list.
India now has a total of 221 billionaires.
Chemicals and financial services have the most new entrants, while the pharmaceutical sector is the largest contributor of wealth creation, with 126 new entrants.
The pharmaceutical industry has 36 wealthy entrepreneurs, followed by chemicals and petrochemicals with 23 and software and services with 21.
Gautam Adani and his family topped the list with an estimated daily wealth of Rs. 1,612 crore, a 116% increase from 2021.
Mukesh Ambani, Cyrus S Poonawalla, Shiv Nadar, and others are among the top performers.
The average age of those on this list was 63.
The youngest person on the list is Bengaluru-based Kaivalya Vohra, who became a self-made millionaire at the age of 19 through the grocery delivery app Zepto. Last year, the youngest person on the list was 23.
Neha Narkhede, an Indian-American from Pune, is the list's youngest self-made woman entrepreneur.
Other notable women on this list include Rekha Rakesh Jhunjhunwala and family in the 34th position and Radha Vembu of Zoho Corp in the 50th position.
Hurun India and IIFL Wealth jointly released the report. The 2022 list is the 11th annual ranking of India's wealthiest individuals. It focuses on people who live in India or were born and raised there. It provides a comprehensive overview of the factors that contributed to the country's increasing wealth.
