Gujarat Semiconductor Policy 2022 27
August 02, 2022
Recently, the Gujarat government released its "Gujarat Semiconductor Policy 2022–27." Over the course of five years, the policy objectives produced at least 2,000 000 new job possibilities. The first state in India to publish a specific semiconductor strategy is Gujarat. In addition, the government has suggested creating a unique "Semicon City" as a component of the Dholera Special Investment region.
The following are key details and elements of the policy:
The Gujarat Government will offer substantial electricity, water, and land tariff discounts under the Gujarat Semiconductor Policy 2022–27 to entrepreneurs who are interested in investing in Gujarat-based semiconductor or display fabrication industry.
The goal of the policy is to position the state as the leader in the emergence of the Electronics System Design & Manufacturing (ESDM) ecosystem.
In an effort to create a strong ecosystem for the production of semiconductors and displays, it will ensure the efficient and prompt completion of qualified projects.
It focuses on offering direction to a sizable chunk of investments made in Gujarat in accordance with the India Semiconductor Mission policies.
Additionally, it seeks to create a "Semicon City."
For projects approved under the India Semiconductor Mission, it provides additional capital assistance at a rate of 40% of the central government's capex aid.
Projects approved under the Union government's Design-Linked Incentive Scheme will not be eligible to receive rewards under the new policy. The first 200 acres of land in the Special Investment zone will be purchased for eligible projects at a 75 percent subsidy. On the other hand, extra land for projects in the upstream or downstream will receive a 50% land cost subsidy.
Mission for Indian Semiconductors
With a total investment of Rs 76,000 crore, the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY) started the "India Semiconductor Mission" in 2021. The purpose is to provide monetary assistance to businesses that finance the manufacturing of displays, design ecosystems, and semiconductors.
