About NIT Tiruchirappalli
The National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli is one of the oldest members of the NIT system established by the government of India. Established in 1964, the National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli also known as NIT Trichy, was earlier known as Regional Engineering College (REC) Trichy run by a joint venture of the Govt of India and the Govt. of Tamil Nadu. After gaining autonomy, the institute became known for the excellent quality of education and experience. It was then given Deemed university status by the UGC and AICTE in 2003. Registered under the Societies Registration Act XXVII of 1975, it was renamed as the National Institute of Technology in Tiruchirappalli and recognised as an institute of national importance.
Spread across an area of 800 acres, NIT Tiruchirappalli has state of the art facilities like Hostel, Canteen, Swimming Pool, Co-op Stores, SBI branch (NIT Branch) ATM, Hospital, Post and telegraph centre and bookstalls etc. The government-run autonomous institute is a prestigious higher education institution that awards degrees majorly in engineering and Technology. NIT Trichy has a total of 10 branches of Under Graduate courses, 21 disciplines for the postgraduate course in Engineering, Management and Architecture. The institute also offers MS and PhD for candidates in all the departments.
One of the most prestigious institutes of the country, NIT Trichy was ranked 9th by NIRF in the top engineering college ranking 2020. It is the only NITs in the top 10 in the same ranking. National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli was also awarded the ‘University of the Year‘s title by FICCI i.e the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry awards in 2015. NIT Trichy has consistently excelled at quality higher education and maintained its long legacy of premier education.
Location:
The National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli is located in Thuvakudi. It is on the Trichy-Tanjore highway with the Trichy Railway station about 17 kms only. NIT Trichy is also located not very far from the Tiruchirappalli Jn, it is situated about a 22km distance on the national highway leading to tanjore. Taking a bus to NIT Trichy is the easiest and the most economical way to reach the institute from the city. The Tiruchirappalli airport is 12.2 km and Central Bus Stand is 22km from the institute.
The location of Tiruchirappalli is also very close to the nearest metro city Chennai which is about 320 km and Madurai which is 142 kms away and very well connected by road. The NIT Trichy location is also very convenient to reach by air since trichy has an international airport connected to almost all major cities around. The Tiruchirappalli railways station is one of the important rail stations in the southern zones with well connected trains to various regions of the country and nearby cities.
Cut-Offs
NIT Trichy cutoff is the last rank that got admitted to the particular in a given academic year. For different branches of B.Tech and Mtech, the cutoff is different. According to the 2020 cutoff, for an open category student, having a rank less than 22235 then getting admission in any one of the engineering branches would be possible in 2020. This cutoff varies every year. For B. Arch a rank below 423 is required. For an MBA from NIT Trichy, an 80 percentile is required.
Admissions
NIT Trichy offers Undergraduate and postgraduate programmes as well as at doctoral levels. Admission into the institute for the various level courses are carried out via Different entrance examinations conducted every year. The Undergraduate courses need candidates to take the (JEE) Joint entrance exam, exam where for the admission to PhD and Mtech courses, students need a qualifying GATE score for admission to NIT Trichy. International candidates will be offered admission under the DASA scheme of MHRD.
For other programmes, students will need either of these exam scores, depending on the course eligibility and criteria. CAT / XAT / MAT / GMAT / GATE/ AIMA/ UGC-NET qualified score / doctoral research fellowship like JRF , RGNF / NET/UGC/CSIR/NBHM/ NATA. Further, candidates will be shortlisted on their merit. For doctoral courses several other considerations like an excellent academic record, test score, research aptitude, publications and reference letters will be evaluated.

Placements
The placements at NIT Trichy are carried out by the department of training and placement and the marketing department at the institute. They take care of the recruitment process right from the start to the very end. Providing valuable guidance to each student in the right direction of a successful career. The department ensures interaction between candidates and companies by coordinating visits, projects, training and seminars for students.
The placement committee also bridges the gap between the participants and the companies and strife to make a successful placement drive each year. NIIT Attracts around 250 companies each year for their placements with an average compensation offer of 6.5 LPA and the highest package offered was of 42 LPA in 2020.
NIT Tiruchirappalli Placements: The final placements at NIT Trichy in the academic year 2020 surpassed last year's figures. This year the UG placements for 2020 were about 96.2% (for BTech) and postgraduate placement percentage was about 92.2%. About 220 companies visited the national institute of technology trichy for recruiting the best minds of the country. With the highest CTC Offered was 42LPA an average compensation of 6.5 LPA was also seen this year.
