Indian Institute of Technology Palakkad was established in the year 2015-2016 under The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India. IIT Palakkad belongs to the prestigious group of Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), which are the autonomous public institutions of national importance for higher education in engineering, science and technology. The institute was formed with the support of IIT Madras. The institute has its temporary campus in Ahalia and the transit campus at Kanjikode. The permanent campus of IIT Palakkad is coming up on a 500-acre plot at the foot of the Western Ghats. This location is situated within a few kilometres from the Palakkad Railway Junction and about 60 kilometres from the Coimbatore International Airport. Indian Institute of Technology Palakkad started its first batch of B.Tech in 2015. The B.Tech programmes include the stream of civil engineering, computer science & engineering, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering. IIT Palakkad M.Tech programmes include geotechnical engineering, manufacturing and materials engineering, computing and mathematics, data science, power electronics and power systems and system-on-chip design.
